Love

We recognize that God is love and that to love God and neighbour is our highest good.

We believe the cross is the clearest revelation of God’s self-giving love.

We are relational people and move at the speed of relationship.

Faith

We dream big and seek to introduce more people to the Jesus Way.

Beyond believing the right things, we live, share and invite others to the Jesus Way, remembering that faith means following.

We encourage all mature and gifted believers toward all expressions of leadership in the Church and see Church history (the creeds, councils, theological reflections) as a help and not a hindrance to following Jesus.

Hope

The Cross seals a new covenant, offering forgiveness and freedom to everyone.

God is the final judge, we are not. We seek to live and witness of the good news to anyone with ears to hear.

We believe we are not primarily tasked with changing the world, but being the world already changed by Christ.

Truth

We seek unity in our essentials, diversity in non-essentials, and charity in everything.

We are a centered-set community taking our shared theological core seriously. We choose to encourage, learn from, and unite with each other, and with all Christians, including those with whom we disagree.

We seek to be accountable to our members by being transparent about our organizational structure and (financial) decisions. We believe Church should be the safest place on earth for children and adults alike.

Generosity

We recognize all good gifts come from above. We therefore seek to give and be generous with our resources.

We seek to support the poor, the sick, the prisoner and the refugee with practical and spiritual means.

We share our spiritual and natural gifts and talents with one another freely.

Prayer

We recognize prayer as the starting and finish line of all ministries and as an important part of our Sunday Worship.

We pray both Spirit-led and liturgical prayers.

We seek a rich and ongoing private prayer life.

Peace

We daily practice forgiveness and mercy.

We are committed to the nonviolent ways of Jesus.

We pursue peace with friends and enemies, and fellow believers from all contexts. We seek to live actively peaceful, hospitable, generous, just, and reconciled lives. We live simply and focus on what’s essential. We communicate and behave transparently.

Statement of Faith

At City on a Hill, our faith centers on Jesus both in how we interpret the scriptures and how we live out our Christian faith. We seek unity in our essentials, while embracing diversity and dialogue in non-essentials, and promoting charity (love) in everything we do.

Our community, guided by a faith seeking understanding, is committed to a posture of humble curiosity, and following in the footsteps of Jesus

The Apostles’ & Nicene Creed

We stand united with believers across all ages, proclaiming the faith as detailed in the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds, affirming our shared heritage and commitment to the foundational truths of Christianity.

The Apostles’ Creed

chevron down

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed

chevron down

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.

Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose againin accordance with the Scriptures, he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
